At least 60 people killed in Israeli airstrike on a residential building in Tehran

Today, the Middle East descends even deeper into crisis.

At least sixty people, including twenty children, have been killed in a devastating Israeli airstrike on a residential building in Tehran. The missile, fired early Friday morning, struck a fourteen-story apartment block in the heart of the Iranian capital, reducing much of it to rubble.

IRIB News reports that the structure partially collapsed, trapping dozens of families inside. So far, thirty-eight bodies have been recovered from the debris. Rescue operations are still ongoing, with heavy machinery digging through concrete and dust. Among the dead are children as young as nine months old.

This was not an isolated attack.

The Israeli Defense Forces launched widespread airstrikes across Iran on Friday, targeting nuclear enrichment sites and military command centers. According to reports, several top Iranian commanders and nuclear scientists were killed in what Israel described as a preemptive operation—to stop Iran from acquiring a nuclear bomb.

Iran, for its part, has repeatedly denied it is pursuing a nuclear weapons program.

In retaliation, Iran fired multiple ballistic missiles at Israeli targets. The Jerusalem Post reports that at least three people were killed in Israel, with more than one hundred and fifty injured. The missiles hit both military and civilian sites, fueling widespread panic and damage.

At the United Nations, Iran’s ambassador, Amir Iravani, addressed the Security Council. He stated that seventy-eight people had been killed in the Israeli strikes, and over three hundred twenty more injured. It remains unclear if the casualties from the Tehran apartment block are included in that number—or are in addition to it.

The violence has not stopped. On Saturday, new explosions were reported in the Iranian cities of Khorramabad and Kermanshah, and in East Azerbaijan Province. Iran says these were more Israeli strikes. Israel has not officially confirmed these new operations.

What began as targeted military action has now spilled into civilian neighborhoods.

The world watches in silence, but the price is paid by innocent families caught in the crossfire.

This is the new reality on the ground.
